Futurefish Foundation’s Achievement
2022 Victorian State Government election
In the lead up to the 2022 Victorian State Government election, Futurefish Foundation worked with political parties and successfully gained a commitment to:
- Open Tarago Reservoir to motorised boats and recreational fishing
- Provide $10 million to expand the Arcadia native fish hatchery and increase annual production from 1.6 million to 6 million fish
- Provide $5 million to upgrade Snobs Creek fish hatchery
- Support angling clubs with $10,000 grants
- Invest $1 million to grow Victoria’s aquaculture sector
Premier Daniel Andrews announced these and other commitments on former Futurefish Foundation Director, David Kramer’s Talking Fishing television program.
Opposition Leader Matthew Guy did not reply to an invitation to appear on the Talking Fishing television program.
Snobs creek has two hatcheries on site – A native fish (Murray cod, Macquarie perch, and trout cod) hatchery and a salmonid (trout and salmon) hatchery. It is supported with funding from your recreational fishing license fee’s and over the last 10 years it has increase production of Murray cod from 50,000 a year to 600,000 a year.
2018 Victorian State Government election
In the lead up to the 2018 Victorian State Government election, Futurefish Foundation worked with political parties and successfully gained a commitment to:
- Remove commercial netting in the Gippsland Lakes
- Stock Eastern King prawns into Lake Tyers
- Build a new $7 million native fish hatchery in northern Victoria
- Increase stocking to 10 million fish by 2022
- Invest $600,000 in new fishing platforms and cleaning tables in Port Phillip Bay
- Open inland reservoirs to kayaks, canoes and tinnies with electric motors
- Invest $2.5 million in reef development in Port Phillip Bay to improve fish habitat
- Make boat launching and parking free in Victoria
- Invest all boat licence and boat registration fees into a Better Boating Fund to upgrade and maintain Victoria’s boat ramps

Arcadia Native Fish Hatchery Visitor Centre
The Arcadia Native Fish Hatchery Visitor Centre, located 20 minutes south of Shepparton, gives fishers and their families a chance to experience and learn all things native fish production and fishing in Victoria.

- 5am –10 pm during daylight saving months (October - March).
- 9am – 5pm for the remainder of the year

2014 Victorian State Government election
In the lead up to the 2014 Victorian State Government election, Futurefish Foundation worked with political parties and successfully gained a commitment to:
- Remove boating restrictions at Blue Rock Lake
- Stock Eastern King prawns into Lake Tyers
- Create a barramundi fishery at Hazelwood pondage
- Provide grants of $2000 to Victorian fishing clubs
- Transfer water into Lake Toolondo and have it restocked with trout
- Make Fisheries Victoria a Statutory Authority

Opposition spokesperson for fishing Jacinta Allan also announced these commitments on former Futurefish Foundation Director, David Kramer’s Talking Fishing television program.
Premier Napthine did not appear with Futurefish Foundation. Instead, he announced several commitments at a public event.
After successful lobbying from the Futurefish foundation, The Victorian government has invested a total of 40 million dollars buying out commercial licences and removing commercial netting in our bays and estuaries.
